Description
Lime plastering, Lime pointing, Fine plaster finishes and Lime wash coats. Virtually all old buildings were constructed using Lime. It was used in conjunction with many materials depending on the area you lived. Brick, stone, earth and timber-framed buildings all relied on the lime as a vital ingredient in mortar, render, plaster and decoration. Early 19th century cement and gypsum became more widespread and possible to build and complete a lot faster, however there are disadvantages to this in older buildings. Lime is a lot slower to build with, requires a lot of patience and skill. However produces a durable, more attractive healthier finish. With all this in mind damp can be allowed to evaporate, the walls breathe and the material change with different seasons and temperature. Although we work a lot with Lime we do still carry out a lot of projects with new modern methods. Sand/Cement rendering, Gypsum plastering and polished plastering.
